Wiskemann of Brussels made this one, and the mark on the reverse tells you so. It is a large twin-handled serving tray in silverplate, a shaped serpentine rim running the full way around and a pair of angular open handles at the ends. Wiskemann was one of Belgium's established plate houses, working out of Brussels from the 1870s onward, and the form here reads mid-twentieth century: clean, architectural, built to carry a full service and be seen doing it. The broad well gives you room, and the shaped border frames it without fuss.

Condition

Bright plate overall with an even, reflective surface across the well. Light surface scratching runs throughout, the ordinary record of use, most visible when the light rakes low across the field. A scatter of faint cloudy spots and water marks shows in the well in several of the photographs. The shaped rim and the raised high points where the handle mounts meet the body are the places most likely to carry plate wear on a tray of this kind, so please look at those edges closely in the images. The angular handles are clean and the shell-and-scroll mounts are crisp. I am making no claim about re-plating in either direction. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.
