This is the old King Edward's School on New Street, Birmingham, in a pencil-signed etching, drawn in dense dark line beneath a cloud-filled sky. Charles Barry designed the Gothic Revival building in the 1830s, and it came down in 1936. The sheet is titled by hand in the lower margin and bears a signature reading Joseph F. Pimm. It's framed in black with a gilt rope lip and carries the label of a Birmingham picture framer.
The print is held under glass in its mat and has been examined in the frame. The image reads clearly, with strong dark line work and the paper tone evenly aged to cream. The mat has toned with age and matches the sheet. The gilt fillet and frame show light surface wear consistent with age. The reverse has an aged paper dust cover and original-looking wire, with no tears in the paper visible in the photographs.
