Signed Chicken Oil Painting Farmyard Rooster and Hens
Signed Chicken Oil Painting Farmyard Rooster and Hens

A rooster leads his hens and a scatter of yellow chicks across a farmyard, a thatched outbuilding and a hazy distance behind them, a pond catching light at the lower left. It is signed Borofsky at lower right, with a matching Borofsky label on the reverse. The name recurs across a whole run of decorative farm animal oils but corresponds to no documented artist, so I am selling it as exactly that: a signed decorative farmyard painting in the old Dutch barnyard manner. The canvas has been restretched and the gilt frame wears softly at the corners, both of which suit a working farmhouse picture.
The painting reads as stable and clean in hand, the farmyard scene bright and the paint film sound across the surface, with light surface grime consistent with age. I have not disturbed the varnish. The canvas has been restretched onto its current stretcher and the reverse shows evidence of prior working, so the back is not original to the painting. The restretch has the canvas sitting sound and taut. The giltwood frame shows honest wear, with rubbing and small losses to the gilt and gesso at all four corners and scattered scuffs along the length, most visible along the top edge. I am describing the reverse and frame only from what I can see. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.
