Vintage French Opaline Glass Table Lamp, Sevre France
Vintage French Opaline Glass Table Lamp, Sevre France

A vintage French opaline glass table lamp, marked Sevre France on the base, in the classic footed urn form that defined mid-century French decorative lighting. The body is blown in true opaline glass, the type that reads as creamy white in direct light and shifts to a blue-violet at the edges and base where the glass thins, a quality produced by bone ash in the melt. The elongated neck, swelling lower body, and circular foot are well-proportioned and hold their own without a shade. The lamp has been professionally rewired to US standards and is in working order. Note: the original fitting is a bayonet-cap (BC) socket, so a BC-base bulb or a BC-to-E26 adapter is required, both of which are widely available online.
The lamp is in good vintage condition and functions as wired. The opaline body is intact with no chips, cracks, or repairs visible. There is one small surface mark on the lower body, visible in photographs, which does not penetrate the glass. The underside of the base has surface scratches consistent with age and use, concentrated on the rim of the foot. The chrome bayonet fitting shows minor age. The cord is a replacement brown cloth-covered cord terminating in a US two-prong plug.
