A lathe-turned ebony dressing table pot, solid Gaboon ebony throughout, with a screw-on lid and baluster body on a stepped base. The form is compact and purposeful: these pots held powder, hairpins, or cotton wool on an Edwardian or inter-war dressing table, and the tight screw closure kept the contents secure. Gaboon ebony, sourced from West Africa, was the material of choice for English toilet ware of this period because of its density, its capacity for a high natural polish, and its deep, even black color. The base is stamped EBONY, consistent with English dressing table accessories of the 1900 to 1935 window. The piece is small, solid, and has the satisfying weight of genuine hardwood.
Good condition overall. The exterior retains strong polish with good depth of color. The screw thread is intact and the lid seats firmly. The top of the lid shows fine surface scratches across the flat face, visible in raking light but not deep. The exterior body is clean with no chips, cracks, or losses. The interior is unfinished ebony, consistent with type, with minor dusty residue but no damage to the wood. The base shows light surface scratching and some white residue around the stamp area, consistent with age and use.
Shipping & Returns
All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
Furniture is the exception. Because of size and weight, furniture shipping is quoted separately rather than calculated at checkout. Send a DM on Instagram or email austynmariedesign@gmail.com for a quote, or arrange your own shipping from the warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
