This is a camel saddle stool, the folding X-frame footstool modeled on a traditional dromedary saddle and made for Western interiors in the mid-twentieth century. The seat is a haired cowhide cushion in warm russet and white over a curved wood cradle, and the splayed legs carry stamped-brass acanthus mounts and rows of domed studs. It folds flat at the pivots, and it works as a footstool, an accent seat, or a low occasional piece in a boho, lodge, or global-styled room.

Condition

Good vintage decorative condition, sold as-is with photos governing. The beech frame is solid and the folding pivots are intact and functional; the rails are stamp-numbered for assembly, consistent with its knock-down production. The seat cushion is a haired cowhide over a tan leather underside and is very likely a later recovering rather than original to the frame, closing with a modern nylon coil zipper. There is an open tear in the hide at one rounded front corner, in the white section beside the rosette-capped leg, where the hide has split and gapped to expose the backing beneath (see photos). The hide also shows general surface wear, light soiling, and a few rubbed areas. The brass appliqués and stud rows are secure with light tarnish and minor loss of gilding in spots. This is a decorative and light-use piece, not a heavily built seat; date is a construction-based estimate, there is no maker's mark, and dimensions are approximate.
