Victorian Gilt Brass Oval Photo Frame with Engraved Floral Decoration, Circa 1890 to 1910
The frame is in good antique condition consistent with its age. The front face retains most of its warm gilt surface, with light overall wear and minor tarnish in the recesses of the engraving. The pierced crest is intact with no losses or bent elements. The oval glass is present and undamaged, held by the original bent brass tabs on the reverse. The glass shows some foxing and minor deterioration to the silver backing, visible when looking directly through it, but this does not affect the function or the display of a photograph placed behind it. The shaped brass strut back is fully intact and functional, supporting the frame at the correct angle. The reverse of the frame shows significant patina loss to the gilded surface, exposing the copper-toned base metal beneath, with areas of verdigris concentrated at the crest and around the oval aperture. This is purely cosmetic and entirely consistent with a frame of this age that has spent most of its life face-forward on a surface. The ring hanger at the top is present and intact.
