This pair of turned alabaster tazzas came out of the English Midlands and date to around 1900. Each is worked in the classic form, with a wide shallow bowl rising on a cylindrical stem from a stepped circular foot, and drilled through the center for lamp rod hardware, which remains in place on both. The alabaster is the warm, translucent variety characteristic of English Midlands quarrying, showing natural grey and cream veining that varies between the two pieces. They read as a pair without being factory-matched, which is typical of how these were sold and assembled.

Condition

Both tazzas are in good antique condition with honest wear consistent with age and use. Flea bite chipping is present throughout the rim edges and base perimeters of both pieces, distributed across both examples rather than concentrated in any one area. One has a hairline surface crack running through the lower cup section, visible in raking light. The alabaster surfaces otherwise retain good polish with natural mineral inclusions and veining intact. Both stems are drilled through the center and fitted with brass lamp rod hardware showing surface oxidation. Neither has been rewired and no wiring is included.
