This antique French bronze figure of a Renaissance soldier is a striking example of late 19th-century craftsmanship. Cast in parcel-gilt bronze with beautiful fire-gilded accents, the figure depicts a Landsknecht-style halberdier in full Renaissance attire. He stands confidently atop a turned white marble plinth, elevated further by a sculpted giltwood base with beaded trim and bun feet. Pieces like this were popular during the Renaissance Revival period in Paris, particularly among collectors furnishing Haussmann-era interiors. Originally part of a garniture set flanking a mantel clock, this surviving figure now makes a captivating standalone sculpture. Its scale is ideal for bookshelves, desktops, or styled consoles, where it adds historical depth and continental elegance. The combination of dark patina, gold accents, and clean white marble offers a timeless contrast that remains just as stylish today as it was in 1880.
Condition:
The figure is in very good antique condition with its original patina and fire-gilt detailing intact. The bronze shows only light signs of age and no structural damage. The white marble plinth is smooth with mild surface wear and a few scattered spots that are consistent with age and use. The giltwood base remains structurally sound and displays beautifully, with some expected wear to the gilding along the edges and a small chip on one corner that does not detract from the overall presentation.
