French Gilt Brass Mounted Cut Glass Vase
French Gilt Brass Mounted Cut Glass Vase
Couldn't load pickup availability
A small French vase in the Louis XVI Revival manner, blown clear glass fitted with a gilt brass rim mount and three applied cast escutcheons, each depicting a rose suspended from a ribbon bow. The glass body is engraved with a band of star-cut motifs at the shoulder, a decorative vocabulary consistent with French luxury glassware of the late 19th century. The form is a narrow cylinder rising to a flared trumpet mouth, a shape that kept cut flowers upright and displayed them to advantage on a dressing table or writing desk.
Good antique condition overall. The glass body is intact with no chips, cracks, or repairs visible. The star-cut engraving at the shoulder is crisp and undamaged. The gilt brass rim mount is firmly seated and retains good color, with surface wear and areas of oxidation consistent with age, most visible along the inner edge of the rim in the close-up photos. The rim moves and is loose but is tight enough that it would not detach. The applied cast escutcheons are all present and intact, though one shows some loss of gilding detail. The base is clean with no chips. Light surface dirt throughout, consistent with age and storage.
