Antique English Sculptural Carved Oak Dough Bowl
Antique English Sculptural Carved Oak Dough Bowl

Hand-carved from a single piece of oak, this large shallow bowl was made for the daily work of a country kitchen, kneading dough, separating ingredients, or the slow business of butter and cheese making. What sets it apart is the raised well turned into the center, an uncommon detail on a form that is usually left plain. Mounted now on a custom iron stand, it reads as sculpture, the tool marks and worn surface doing the talking.
This bowl is in solid, display-ready condition and shows the wear you would expect from an early hand-carved working piece. The surface has a deep aged patina with tool marks and turning lines visible beneath it. There is an old repair to an age-related split, reinforced with wood filler, done to hold the bowl together and left honest rather than hidden. There are minor cracks, small losses, and slight surface imperfections throughout, all consistent with age and use. The iron stand is a later custom addition and is included. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.
