This little vase caught my eye for its rim, no two waves of that pinched edge are quite the same, which tells you it was shaped by hand after throwing, not from a mold. A solo studio potter working in the United States made it in 2024, wrapping a pale stoneware body in loose, hand-brushed charcoal stripes that pool and speckle a little differently with every turn of the piece.

Dimensions
4.5 in. Diameter 4 in. H
Surface
Glossy pale ground glaze with hand-brushed vertical stripes in a dark charcoal brown, showing natural pooling and light iron speckling where the brushwork meets the rim
Primary Material
Stoneware
Period
Contemporary
Date
2024, per the maker's own impressed mark
Origin
United States
Style or Movement
Contemporary studio pottery
Maker
Unattributed. Purchased directly from an independent maker's Instagram shop
Marks
Impressed to the underside within the footring: lowercase cursive initials reading approximately "nb," a small wave motif beneath, and "2024" impressed as a separate line
Construction
Wheel-thrown, with the rim hand-pinched into its scalloped wave after throwing

This vase presents as new. No chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs are visible in the available photographs. The irregularity of the rim is intentional, hand-pinched after throwing, not damage. The mottled pooling and light speckling within the glaze stripes are part of the brushwork and firing rather than a flaw. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of this description.

Shipping & Returns

Important Info About Antique & Vintage

Every antique and vintage item we carry has lived a life before arriving in your home. These are not factory-made products. They are objects with history, character, and the marks of time.

Age-appropriate wear, patina, minor imperfections, and signs of previous use or repair are inherent to antique and vintage items and are not considered defects. These characteristics are part of what makes each piece unique and are often what give it its beauty and value.

We describe the condition of each piece as accurately as possible in the listing. If you have specific questions about a piece before purchasing, please reach out. We are always happy to provide additional photos or details.

Colors may appear slightly different on screen due to monitor settings and photography lighting. We do our best to represent each item accurately.

Descriptions, dates, attributions, materials, and measurements are provided in good faith and reflect our best assessment based on research, physical examination, and the information available to us. Antique and vintage pieces often carry incomplete or unverifiable histories. Where a detail is an assessment rather than a confirmed fact, it is identified as such. Measurements are approximate.
