Vintage Middle Eastern Camel Saddle Stool with Embossed Leather Cushion & Brass Accents (c. 1950s)

Vintage camel saddle stool, circa 1950s, with a wooden frame secured by brass studs and legs set with repoussé brass medallions. The hand-tooled leather seat is embossed with symbolic scenes and has aged into a warm reddish-brown, straw-filled and firmer than its size suggests. Pieces like this were carried home from Oman, Egypt, and across the region by mid-century travelers, and they work as well for extra seating as they do as a low occasional table or a sculptural accent in a corner. The brass has taken on a soft oxidized glow that only comes with time.
The stool is sturdy and well-built, with wear consistent with its age and use. The hardwood frame shows minor surface scratches, but the legs are securely joined and the construction is solid. The brass medallions and capped joints are intact, with natural oxidation and patina throughout. The original straw-filled leather cushion has a rich patina and clear embossed designs, though one side has a tear that reveals the straw inside. The leather shows some cracking and wear consistent with age. The underside rope ties are mostly intact, with slight fraying in places.
