A Victorian English silverplate mustard pot, the cylindrical drum body pierced in a neoclassical pattern with scrolling wave friezes at the upper and lower registers and a central foliate medallion flanked by foliate sprays. The hinged dome lid has a beaded border and the characteristic slot for the spoon. The cobalt blue glass liner is original and in outstanding condition. The piece is stamped "N. Smith & Co." on the base with a shield cartouche mark. The accompanying mustard spoon is Birmingham sterling silver, hallmarked with date letter S and maker's mark B, dating the spoon to circa 1893, in the plain fiddle-end pattern with a shovel terminal. Together they make a complete, honest, and usable Victorian condiment set.
The pot is in good antique condition consistent with its age. The silverplate retains good coverage overall with light tarnish and age-appropriate surface wear; no significant plate loss visible in the main body panels. The hinge and pivot mechanism are functioning and in good order. The dome lid sits and closes properly. The cobalt blue glass liner is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. The handle is intact and solid. The base shows the expected wear of a piece that has seen regular use. The pivot area where the lid hinge joins the handle shows some wear and minor corrosion consistent with age but the mechanism is functional.
The sterling silver spoon is in good used condition with light tarnish across the handle. The spoon bowl shows gentle use wear. The hallmarks on the handle are legible. No damage or repairs.
