A tramp art box in painted and chip-carved wood, its panels set with red velvet and applied gilt-metal ornaments: flower baskets on every face, and a crown with trailing ribbon flanking the lock. The reason to look twice is how dressed-up it is for the form. Most tramp art is bare varnished wood, but this maker painted the notched layers cream and coral, added a fitted lion-mask lock, cast paw feet, and a purple velvet interior with a mirror set into the lid and small gilt doves in the corners. Someone built this to hold something that mattered.
This box is in fair to good antique condition with wear that shows its age and use. The lid mirror is cracked, clearly visible in the interior photos. The velvet varies across the piece: some panels have faded from deep red to a lighter coral, and there is nap loss and thinning throughout, heaviest on the exposed top and front. The painted surface has an overall age crackle and there is paint flaking and loss in areas across the carved borders, consistent with painted tramp art of this age. Some of the fine notched tips along the edges are chipped or lost, expected for the medium. The applied gilt-metal ornaments are all present and hold well. The brass handle, lion-mask lock, and cast paw feet are all in place; the lock is present but there is no key. The interior velvet shows wear and light staining. The wood structure is sound and the lid opens and closes properly. Please see all photos, as they are part of the condition report.

All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.
All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
