A charming early 20th-century English writing blotter, beautifully handcrafted with a burnished image of a terrier rendered in pyrography, or pokerwork. The design is signed F.H.O. in the lower right corner and showcases a skillful control of tone and shading that captures the lively expression of the dog.

Made from light-stained oak or similar hardwood, the front panel features a simple geometric border and retains its original twisted silk cord closure. Inside, the blotter opens to reveal its original mottled paper lining and black corner reinforcements.

This piece reflects the Arts & Crafts era’s appreciation for decorative yet functional home objects — an ideal example of domestic craftsmanship and sentimentality from early 20th-century England.
