A late 19th-century French planter table in the Louis XV taste, with a serpentine bombé apron decorated in rosewood, tulipwood, and boxwood cube parquetry, raised on cabriole rosewood legs ending in brass sabots, and fitted with a mahogany-lined well and a zinc liner. Pieces like this were made for the specific 19th-century habit of bringing the garden indoors, holding a fern, an orchid, or a seasonal arrangement without risking the veneer beneath. The apron carries the piece visually, with its cube parquetry pattern, known to French cabinetmakers as point de Hongrie and to the English as tumbling blocks, creating an optical illusion that shifts the cubes forward and back as you look. Today the form is as useful as it ever was. The well and liner hold a season's arrangement or a small orchid, the top surface takes a drinks tray with room to spare, and the scale works quietly as a bedside piece in a room that wants something more considered than a nightstand. Small enough to slip beside a sofa or under a window, distinctive enough to earn the spot.
The table is in good antique condition with honest wear consistent with age and use. The rosewood, tulipwood, and boxwood cube parquetry apron is clean and crisp on every face, with no lifting or loss to the veneers. The serpentine apron and scalloped frieze are intact throughout. All four cabriole legs are straight and stable, with original brass sabots present and secure. Some old veneer stress and hairline splits are visible at the joins where the apron meets the legs, stable and consistent with more than a century of seasonal wood movement. The mahogany-lined well retains its stamped brass ribbon molding around the rim, with a small chip to the wood where the molding meets one corner. Faint water staining is present inside the well from its years of use as a planter, consistent with the piece's working life. A few stable hairline checks are visible to the underside near the apron-to-leg joins, none affecting structural integrity. The zinc liner appears to be a later replacement, likely 20th century, made in the period style to serve as the working liner for the well. It functions as intended, with heavy paint loss to the black exterior consistent with decades of use, which sits hidden inside the well and does not show in display. The green painted interior and side carrying handles are intact and stable. The piece has been polished at some point in its life, likely mid-20th century, giving it a slightly warmer surface than untouched original finish. Light surface wear throughout consistent with over a century of handling.

All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
