Two hunting dogs stand watch over the day's catch in this quiet interior scene, a pheasant laid on the straw at their feet while a hunting horn hangs on the wall behind them. The subject descends from a much older tradition, the dead-game still life invented by Dutch and Flemish painters in the 17th century, which over the following two centuries became a familiar decorative subject produced widely for the trade market. This one is unsigned, as most such pieces are.
The paint surface shows warm, even discolouration consistent with an aged varnish layer, with fine craquelure and light surface abrasions scattered through the composition, most visible in the darker passages of the interior. The board support appears stable, with no losses or lifting visible in the photographs. The carved gilt composition frame shows scattered chips and small losses to the gilding along with general wear consistent with age and handling. A fine hairline separation is visible in the top rail, and an old repair is present to the outer left rail. The reverse shows a plain wood backing board fitted with a hanging wire, no maker's stamp, label, or inscription is visible. All antique and vintage items are shipped from our warehouse in Bluffdale, Utah. Each piece is carefully packed by hand using archival materials and custom crating when necessary.
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the size and weight of the item. Local pickup is available at the AMD Warehouse.

All sales of antique and vintage items are final due to their unique, one-of-a-kind nature. Illuminé candles and The Collector's Guide may be returned within 14 days of delivery if unopened and in original condition.
If your piece arrives damaged, please photograph the damage immediately (including packaging), contact us within 48 hours at austynmariedesign@gmail.com, and do not discard any packaging.
