The coromandel veneer and boxwood stringing are intact across the exterior case, with light surface scratches and handling marks on the lid and sides consistent with age and use. The ebonized plinth base shows minor edge wear. There is some veneer chipping and small losses along the edge of one interior rack shelf, visible in the photographs. The fold-down tiered racks and trays are structurally sound and operate as intended. There are no maker's marks anywhere on the piece. The playing cards, poker chips, and pencils shown in the photographs are later additions, included with the box as a decorative assortment and not original to it. They are pictured to show how the interior was designed to be used.
