It's an unframed oil on canvas in the old Northern European barnyard tradition, painted in a dark, earthy palette. The straw broom and the banded cask give the scene its weight. It's unsigned, and I'm offering it as an unidentified work. The canvas is original and has not been relined.

[d]Artist | Unidentified

[d]Signature | Unsigned

[d]Medium | Oil on canvas

[d]Subject | Rooster and peacock in a barn interior, with a barrel, broom, and a figure in an arched doorway

[d]Origin | Continental European, unattributed

[d]Age | Early 19th century, assessed on stretcher construction and style. A genre of farmyard and poultry scenes popular in the Netherlands and Flanders from the 17th century onward, often showing exotic birds alongside common fowl in a dim outbuilding. Later painters kept the format going for decades, and this work follows that tradition without being tied to a named painter.

[d]Support | Original, unlined canvas on a keyed wooden stretcher

[condition]

Antique condition consistent with age. The canvas is original and unlined, and it shows the tearing and loose areas that come with that. Some areas of canvas are loose on the stretcher and there is tearing at some edges. The canvas weave reads strongly through the paint across much of the surface, which points to a thin paint layer with wear. There are small light flecks along the barrel hoops and near the lower edge that look like minor paint loss or flaking. The varnish is dull and darkened. The stretcher is keyed, with a center crossbar, and shows edge wear and small nicks. A thin gilt edge runs along the perimeter. The reverse is stained and carries only an inventory sticker, with no labels, stamps, or inscriptions. The work is unframed.
